I purchased this movie mainly because I find movies about mental institutions very interesting. The human mind is such a mystery, still, that movies about the different ways mental patients see the world are, for me, more interesting than fiction. This movie is based on a real life guy which is truly amazing in itself! You can read the cover insert to this dvd and see all sorts of praise for the star, Tom Hardy. All the kudos, and then some, are well deserved as I seldom have seen such a potent job of acting. But I was not ready for what I got in this film!!! It is extremely A Clockwork Orange-ish in it's look and theme. But it even goes further in presenting the point of view of "Bronson" himself...it delves into imagery and surrealism not seen since David Lynch's cult favorite Eraserhead! There are particular scenes that I especially love herein, but don't want to mention them as they would be considered spoilers. Enough to say that at times this movie had me laughing till my stomach was sore. At other times it almost brought tears to my eyes, which is a rare thing for a movie to do to me. Two warnings though. First, to my knowledge the movie is only out in region 2 format. But anyone can find sites on the internet that divulge settings for all dvd players to unlock the code settings done at the factory to make the players region free. It's simple, free and works like a charm. The other thing is it's a British movie and being that the British don't have the weirdness many Americans do about seeing a naked body, this movie does contain a fair amount of male frontal nudity. So if that sort of thing bothers someone, I can't suggest they see this one. If you can deal with those two points, then buckle up your seat belt! This is going to be one roller coaster ride you wont soon forget!Read full review
I enjoyed reading this book. Charles Bronson makes a compelling argument that for many long term prisoners, if they were insane when they went to prison they became insane by the time they left. it is to be expected that prisoners will moan about the conditions they are kept it and about some of the treatment they are dealt. However, Bronson accepts that action must be taken against criminals and he personally wants to kill every paedophile he meets in prison and attempts to do so. I'm not convinced though that prisoners become mad, it seems logical to me that in the cases he talks about, these are seriously maladjusted individuals. Perhaps Bronson is right, the only answer is capital punishment as they aren't curable and their behaviour wlll only continue once they are back outside. An interesting book written by a very interesting character.Read full review
This film is fantastic. How they have crucified Charlie is horrendous. He needs to be released not tortured.
