That cat above this review was obviously looking for THE guitar that would make him (or her) sound better- Randy Scruggs or Donovan or whoever they want to sound like. I recently purchased a J45 Custom, and after 50 years of loving and playing a whole bunch of guitars, I can honestly say this guitar doesn't make me sound worse than I actually do. It's one fineass instrument and you'll never regret having one of these hanging in front of you if you expect the best. It'll sound as good as you make it!!!

The J-45 CUSTOM features a AA-grade Sitka spruce top, with premium book matched Rosewood on its back and sides. Hand selected Rosewood back & sides resonate a deep, rich tone with clarity thru the treble range. Other touches include hand-scalloped, radiused top bracing, herringbone binding, a tapered dovetail neck joint, a double-ring rosette combined with hand sculpted headstock design filled with abalone inlay. The dot inlays on the J-45 are made of genuine mother-of-pearl-of-pearl. What's more, the J-45 Custom's fingerboard has a rolled edge that's lightly beveled, which makes for smooth playability. This beautiful guitar has just the right amount of "bling"! The J-45 CUSTOM's classic appearance and deep resonant sounds makes this guitar a cut above the "workhorse" J-45 Standard. Recommend "5 STAR!" Rating. -Bill KingRead full review

Clean as expected, awesome looks, and plays great after two tweets on the truss rod.

First off, I do like the guitar. I just wish to ask more questions if I decide to purchase another guitar online, the only reason I would hesitate from doing it again is because you do not get to play it. I've always been drawn to a Gibson J-45, and it being an custom kind of blinded me to the idea of really checking the guitar out more. Now the reason I say this is because the previous owner didn't seem to give it the TLC that was needed. The guitar was so dry I'm convinced that the sound board would have cracked, for it to be a relatively new instrument the previous owner did not do the maintenance that fine acoustic's require. I probably should have purchased the Randy Scrugg's J-45...live and learn.
I purchased this guitar 2 weeks ago and loved it right out of the box but I wanted to play it a while before writing a review just so I wouldnt be so biased about my brand new guitar. After 2 weeks I have played it every day and I still LOVE IT!!! This is the best guitar i have ever owned period. Playability, tone, craftsmanship, its flawless. If you are looking for a guitar that will last a life time, this is the one to go with. Its nickname says it all. "Workhorse" and thats exactly what this guitar is. If you are blessed with the funds to buy a guitar of this caliber, you need to look no further than the Gibson J-45 Custom Rosewood. Immaculate just about sums it up in every aspect!!
