I have regularly put butt joints together in softwood by just drilling at an angle, countersinking and putting in screws, resulting in spit wood in over 50 percent of the attempts. This little pocket jig gives a good result without splitting in every case when you set it up right, and the setting up is easy. It is solidly build and clamps to the job. You need a clamp but not necessarily a Kregg clamp. The jig comes with a miserly sample of pocket screws. The disadvantages are that it gives you a long tapered hole which has to be hidden or filled. In most cases hiding is the best option and with a little thought is generally easily done. Plugs to fit these large holes are available ( and a sample is included in the box) but the finish on such a long scar is never great with a varnish. It is fine with paint The second disadvantage is that the pocket screws (and plugs) are expensive. The ones I bought work out in excess of 5 pence each...so add a couple of quid on to the cost of your job.. Overall the jig is a tad expensive but it works well and has saved me time, and handfuls of hair. Make sure that you get the coarse screws for softwood joints and fine for hardwood joints. You really need to buy your screws at the same time as the jig so count your pennies.Read full review

I think the square head is too easily rounded, if only slightly, as it can easily slip when using the Kregs screws. I'd have thought something like a philips head would work better and be more versatile. The metal could also be harder.

Affordable square drive bits for pocket hole work and other square drive screw heads. Cheaper and longer lasting than Trend bits. Two sizes make it easier when working in tight corners meaning you can drive the screw without chewing up the head. Use with low torque to protect screw head, drill and timber without stripping thread formed in timber. Recommend these bits and I am a joiner.

Only needed the small size for getting into tight area's as it dosen't come with the Kreg pocket hole jig I purchased, seems good quality and a great price

Useful addition to my bit driver tool kit for use with Kreg square drive socket screws. The shorter of the two drivers is ideal when working on small scale projects or where access is restricted. Very happy with this purchase.
