Our daughter loved the look and colour (purple) of this laptop, so we ordered it for her and were pleased with the appearance although the build feels a little flimsy, but found a lot of work was required to set it up for use. This laptop only has 32GB of internal storage - two thirds of which is taken up by the operating system and pre-installed software. This leaves very little for installing applications, but even if you install none you may still have problems. After activation the laptop needs to upgrade to the latest version of Windows 10 - otherwise essential security patches cannot be applied. The upgrade assistant should do this automatically, but when applying the latest updates (to Fall Creators Update version 1709) it failed with an error code that when searched for indicated insufficient storage. Searching for a solution for this laptop was very frustrating as most advice was to run the disk cleanup utility and remove any unwanted apps - not very helpful on a new machine. I had added an additional 32GB SD card and attached a 32GB usb drive, but these seem to be ignored by the update. The solution that finally worked for me (after six attempts to update!), was to download the media creation tool from the Microsoft website to the SD card and create an ISO image of the latest Windows 10 installation on the SD card. This was then opened and the setup run. It is important to select the option to NOT download other updates, otherwise the upgrade will still fail with insufficient storage. Other updates can be applied when the upgrade is complete. The SD card should also be used to install any apps you want to add later (not easy as many default to the C-drive rather than the D-drive) so that you don't use up the internal storage for future upgrades. The storage design for these basic laptops with only 32GB non-replaceable drives (there are other makes than HP with similar restrictions) is clearly very poor. Microsoft's design for Windows 10 updates should also be improved to allow use of all available storage - whether an SD card or a USB drive. These basic laptops are clearly designed for inexperienced users but sadly the update process is likely to leave the severely disappointed and frustrated. Luckily I had enough experience to investigate alternative methods to update the operating system and the patience to keep trying to get a usable system. I just hope this review will help any users with the same issues I found.Read full review

Very pleased with the lap top - as always HP are very reliable and tis one is much lighter than the one it is replacing - good value for money and easy to use - it is already up and running for work and leisure. I'm happy to recommend it to anyone who is considering buying a similar or the same lap top.

Lightweight, amazingly low cost, very functional. The big weakness to watch out for is that the "hard drive" is too small, at only 32 GB, for Windows 10. This means that, even after deleting crapware, you cannot load it with any significant amount of software and then accept the latest MS upgrades. You can add 64 GB of drive D for very little money, with an SD card and a make-it-bigger holder, in order to carry data files. This machine came with zero useful paperwork (perhaps because it was reconditioned and ultra-cheap), which made the nasty surprises of Windows 10 (for someone like me with years of experience on older systems) extra annoying. 10's behaviour with networks is weird.
