I bought this item as i buy fabric online and wanted a reference guide as regards weight etc.so i know what quality of item i am buying. What i got is not what i was expecting. Instead of the weight normally noted against material, e.g 328gsm it gives thread count per inch!! You're expected to use a magnifying glass measuring an inch to count the warp and weft within that small space to establish how heavy the material is.Obviously this is time consuming and would not be practical in a large number of buying situations. It is very basically put together (probably costing no more than a £5) and considering it is selling for such a huge price (£99 in a lot of places), it is definitely not worth the money. It will not withstand any wear and tear. The swatches are already frayed as you know a lot of fabric begins to fray the moment it is cut. In a matter of weeks or with minimal use you would likely be left with worthless threads as the samples are only about an inch big. The pages provide basic information and you must attach each swatch sample to each blank space over the information. The content is all black and white (like photocopied pages) basically set out like you could do yourself on Word. There no inclusion of information i needed for my purpose but would be helpful to those studying textile. If i were textile student however, i would buy a cheap textbook explaining the construction of textile and simply gather my own samples from free samples of fabric in shops and online (some places charge £1 for a sample but most give a few free) and basically put together my own reference guide using glue around each sample to prevent it from fraying. I was left really disappointed with this i had great expectations especially given the price. Sadly, in this case i was wrong and you don't get what you pay for. Also, This guide also gives swatches for 100% polyester, cotton etc.However, in buying fabric i notice there is usually a mix of one fabric with another and i was interested in finding out how i could establish whether i am buying a genuine linen cut or whether it was mixed with nylon or something else for example as i assume there are unscrupulous sellers who will tell you a fabric is a particular quality but it is watered down in a sense or they themselves are not certain of the content. This reference guide will not help in this situation.Read full review
