Fantastic lens - I use it for wedding photography and this piece of glass is exceptional for it - May not be the high end branded Canon but it does just as good as long as you use it properly :)
I actually got the non macro version which just means an extra 0.5m to the minimum focusing distance. Firstly I would like to mention the HSM focusing system. I know all these Hypersonic focus motors are supposed to be very quite but this thing is so quite I thought it was broke at first. Size and weight of the lens, well you would stand out if you went to a party with it thats for sure, however I carried this on a 7D with a monopod for a whole day around the zoo and was not exactly back breaking. Image quality, well I've not tried Canons L series rival however what I can say is that the pictures are fairly clear from the word go, they obviously get sharper if you drop the apeture slightly but then so do most lenses. Even with a sigma 2X teleconverter on the images are very acceptable and with an apeture of 5.6 it can still autofocus (granted the tele will only fit sigma lens) All in all this lens seem great for very keen sports and wildlife photographers, as I said I can not draw a direct comparison to the Canon L series 70-200, apart from this is half the price. Could not afford the layout of canon's 70-200 f2.8 l lens. so decided to try the sigma version. it's a bit soft at f2.8 but stopped down to f4 and the photo's are really sharp this version is the non dg version.i would recommend this lens to anybody who is on a tight budget.excellent lens
I have used both the Canon L series 70-200 f/2.8 and this sigma and in all honesty I have to say that apart from being a bit heavier than the Canon The sigma seems faster focusing, quieter and more sharp than the canon and on top of all that its half the price, a top quality Lens
I decided to purchase this lens against the Nikon 70-200 purely because of price (£1000 cheaper) and i was not disappointed it produces fabulous sharp images throughout the range without ghosting or flare it is a sturdy very well built lens and comfortable to hold without being to heavy and i would recommend this lens to anyone wanting to purchase a 70-200mm f/2.8 Nikon FIT lens if the cost is an issue
