I had previously used a wibdscreen mount DAB aerial and a variety of single DIN head units (Phase-In, Sony and Pure) and had always had reasonable reception except behind hills and in valleys. My dad bought one of these for his Qashqai and the signal reception is amazing - it doesn't lose signal behind the same hills andnin the same valleys, so when I changed cars this was one of my first purchases. Easy to fit, I put it on the rear of my 2010 Civic's glass roof, ran the power cables through the headlining and into the boot to use the 12v socket there. This makes a clean dash install as all the DAB magic is in the aerial box stuck on the glass and the little controller for the dash is wireless.

A quick overview... This is a great gadget, well designed, not that difficult to fitl and when in good signal area it's really good. The caveat... When you drive through a village or valley then forget it, no signal and no reception. I can compare this to a family member's Ford C-Max which has factory fit DAB and keeps reception and signal in these same areas. Also some built up areas can cause signal drop. That said I was in a local town today and reception was "just holding on". In another town which has high elevation signal was dropped and very sporadic. So, if you live in an urban area with excellent signal then this gadget will probably work for you. If you live in the sticks or in backwaters like the West Country then this probably isn't for you unless it's city. Radio 4 or commentary heavy listener? I wouldn't recommend it. Overall sound quality is okay but I'm using the FM transmitter. My premium car ironically doesn't have a line in and fitting one is very expensive. I can't comment on line in quality although I suspect it might be better. FM works well enough but the sound frequencies are compressed and bass heavy resulting in a slightly muffled sound at times. I'm used to high quality sound in my car (from iPod etc.) so it is particularly noticeable with the reduced quality of the Highway. Why a Pure Highway for my car? Well my vehicle is 10 years old and fitting factory DAB costs over £1.5k or £350.00 for a near factory solution. At the Pure price point it is worth a try in your car, if like mine factory DAB is financially prohibitive. I also read that factory DAB for my vehicle aint that good anyway. Am I prepared to put up with signal loss? Who knows? I might become irritated with it or put up with signal drop out.Read full review

I was a little suspect on reading mixed reviews for ALL add on DAB receivers. I was however, most impressed with how good this Highway 400 is. I chose it for the wireless display/controller, as it means I can site it anywhere without the need for cables trailing across the dash. The cables from the window mounted aerial (aux and power) are quite long but only just reached my mid seat console with just a few inches to spare. Signal is great, sound is clear and deep, and a great choice of stations. My controller is fitted close to my radio, and so no harder to use.

I've tried other car DAB radios but this has really good reception. It worked reasonably well with antenna in central console cupboard but signal much improved when fitted to rear window. I have power in boot so receiver went there and remote connection to controller. Once tuned to my favourite channel the batteries of the controller can be removed as receiver stays to that channel. Only downside is there's no song info sent to fm receiver(radio tuned to Highway) so just displays channel as Highway.

It took about 30 minutes to self install, the instructions are easy to follow, hardest part was getting the magnet attached under the roof lining. The reception via the option for tuning to an FM station was a bit ropey at times but the unit does exactly what it should do. I ordered a separate adapter off ebay because my wifes car doesn't have an 'aux in' socket but once that arrived it works perfectly, crystal clear reception and a long list of DAB stations are available. Wife is well happy so all good. 😁
