This is a wonderfully bright, sharp 50mm lens which works perfectly on my dx Nikon D500, giving an effective focal length of 75mm. It's a great portrait and general purpose lens when fitted to a crop sensor camera. Very pleased with this addition to my lens set.

Nikon 50mm f1.4 One of the finest affordable 50mm lenses available, this one is the manual focus version, which has the same optical construction as the later AF version; but I prefer the weight and feel and 'heft' of this lens; as I am not photographing moving objects AF is not important. Faster than the f1.8, and only stopping down to f16, this is an excellent lens for low (or lower) light photography, which you can use wide open with slow film for a deliberately soft image, but remains pin sharp at f5.6 onward. Superb bokeh, great lens, everyone should have one.

I wanted to get a very sharp lense with background being blured up. It is a nice lense, but some things need to be remembered when taking a picture. I f it s too bright in the room, the picture will be overexposed. Especially when shooting with 1.4 apperture. For my opinion it s nice for outdoor portraits when shooting in the shadow and don t want to use flash. And the background is getting blured up. But because it s just manual focus, you will need some practice before you will manage to set up right focus yourself. One single movement in a wrong side can ruin your picture. And sometimes focus is done on a wrong subject. If looking back, I would go for autofocus lense. But still it is a great lense for the price payed!
I bought this lens to use in astrophotography as it is f4. It seems as sharp or maybe slightly sharper than my 70-300 at 200mm but with the added advantage of being a bit faster. For the money its a good lens. Also good for daytime; somehow images have a slightly different feel to more modern lenses, maybe to do with the way it handles colour. Bokeh seems pleasing to my eyes.

I bought the Nikon ais f1.4 50mm lens because it would fit my Nikon photomic Ft camera as well as fucntion well on my D200. It is razor sharp and very bright to view through. If anybody is in the market for that size of lens and they know it will meter on their body don't hesitate go for it. The focus is manual but that makes little or no difference to the handling and is still quick to use. I thoroughly recomed it.
