We have two areas that get some mould during colder weather ... This is probably due to the fact that we don't open the windows when the heating is on when it is cold outside ... We have cavity wall insulation and very thick loft insulation, so I suppose the moisture has to find a colder area to condense onto ... The double glazed windows only get a very small amount of condensation ... I decided to try using the new Ecoair DD1 Mk5 to see if it would work ... It is quite small and good looking and doesn't look out of place in situ ... I tried it first in the master bedroom as I slept with the windows and door closed ... The door and windows were kept shut and I put the DD1 on "Auto" for four hours at about eight in the morning ... The room was obviously quite humid even at the end of August and the machine collected 460ml (16 fluid ounces) of water ... If the door and windows were kept open overnight, it would have been a lot less ... So in winter I guess it would be about the same as I collected in my test run ... Possibly more ... The other room only collected about one third of that amount in four hours, but that was later in the day ... In Winter, I will be using it in the bedroom for four hours every alternate morning as I will do in the other room ... The DD1 also slightly warms the air when in use making it effectively a small room heater ... This means that the radiator thermostatic valve could be turned down slightly if needed ... I can therefore certainly recommend the DD1 as a very efficient dehumidifier.Read full review

We had a problem with condensation so bought the Ecoair DD1 classic, it has several controls such as low medium high power to laundry mode, I've tried them all and they work a treat. Initially I used high power full fan operation ioniser and the timer set to 2hrs. It was an eye opener how much water it collected in this time I continued using 2 hourly settings as I was curious to see how much water was collected. My wife insists on using a clothes horse at the moment due to the bad weather so the laundry mode was used for that and to be fair it works well. Additionally the vented air is warm which is good its not a cold draught. On full power and if you have it near, you can hear it, though its more background noise not annoying but there. On low speed you will not notice even if its beside you. We've had it a few weeks now and I generally have it on low speed for 2 hrs (unless there is washing) and the air really does seem fresher and drier, the house also seems to warm up quicker. Overall I'm very pleased with itRead full review

Purchased specifically for winter use in unheated garage that suffers from damp. Will operate on timer for one hour per night. To pump water outdoors through wall, I had to purchase a special - size outlet pipe direct from manufacturer because diameter of pipe is a non-standard size. Slight smell given out means that I would not use this device for use in the home. Nor would I want to use it without a tube for pumping the water outdoors, because water tank is too fiddley to keep emptying.

We have had one of these dehumidifiers for a few years now and have just bought a second one as we have been very satisfied with this unit and it has proven to be quite good at what it can do to eliminate dampness.
