I would consider myself to be someone who does research in order to get the correct item for my home. I have had a period of ill health, which mean that I have done more research than most. I needed a blue ray player to replace one that was being used as a universal disc player. In choosing the pioneer, I had a shortlist of 3 that was within my budget of £100.00. Originally selling for around the £300 mark, i was convinced that this was the one for me. Is it worth £100. Absolutely. Does it match up to the reviews. Well. Not quite. I expected mind blowing picture and sound. What I got was very good picture and sound. I previously owned an older Denon bluray player from 2008. It has dual wolfson dac as well as 48 bit deep colour. I have to say that the denon is a better machine. So much for items getting better as new models are released. Having said that. The denon was originally much more expensive, so my argument really should be about value and not like for like comparison. In my opinion the Pioneer is an accomplished and well engineered piece of kit, that is well worth the second hand price of £100 and I would recommend anyone with that budget to purchase this machine. If you want the very best quality, then you have to pay for it. I wish I had spent another £50.00 and bought a second hand denon 2012. This doesn't mean I am mad on Denon. Since then, they have failed to get top reviews and other manufacturers have been beating them on star ratings. Verdict. £100. Pioneer lx52, or lx55.Read full review
