I spent a fair bit of time, and a couple of different cartridges and some styluses on an old Pickering V15 cartridge, and could never get it just right. Decided to plump for the AT95E, and so wish I'd done that earlier. The different is astonishing, and can make a modest budget HiFi system perform just a little better over an ageing or cheaper alternative (sounds way better than a low end Ortofon, which cost more). The sound from this is very open, and well detailed with very good stereo imaging. It is a little 'brighter' sounding than the Pickering, but avoids any high frequency nasties (such as sibilance). It possibly lacks a little bit on the bass side, but midrange is spot on, which is my preference anyway. For this price level, there just isn't anything to criticise it for, and apparently it can be made even better with an upgraded stylus. If you've got a modest system (mine is a Technics SL1800 deck, Denon amp and Tannoy speakers), then this will make a very good match at a sensible cost.Read full review

Easily the best cartridge up to £50 or even more! Set it up accurately and it will give you a lively musical delivery of your vinyl. Two nuts and bolts at the sides at regular headshell centres- it's a bit fiddly but you've only got to do it once. This cartridge has been a no-brainer forever. Can sound a little harsh maybe on some tone arms but overall doesn't do anything horrible to the sound like others may at this price range. Decent bass and sound staging. Will work well on turntables up to £250 and some of the more expensive ones. On the minus side the stylus is tricky to remove(£20 to replace) but for only a fiver more you can replace the whole cartridge which many an audiophile would do. Well worth an audition. I've used one on and off for years in a Dual 505-3 or a slightly tweaked Pro-ject Debut. and I've got a new one put by for when I need it. Recommended.Read full review

For the money I doubt that you will get a better cartridge. Good soundstage and seperation and excellent tracking (passed all tracking tests on Hi-Fi News Test LP). Best run at 2g VTF and good for older 1st issue vinyl, which if suffering from groove wear, sounds better than my AT150MLx as the AT95e doesn't dig that deep into the grooves to extract the audio artifacts associated with groove wear. Highly recommended for enrty level / budget turntables.

A really worthwhile replacement, maybe even an upgrade, if your old stylus has worn over the years as mine had. The K9 cartridge is pretty good and when performing as new is really quite impressive. The removal and replacement was so easy, just pull the old one off and push on the new, it really is that simple. I thoroughly recommend changing if yours is a few years old, a really cheap improvement.
