Well the price is right and that is why I say I would recommend it. It tunes in easily to Freeview but not being too knowledgable about Freesat it took a while to realise that you have to know which satellite you are pointed at and you have to tell the box. It seemed to find hundreds of satellite channels. So many in fact that I have not yet tried to manage them or use them much. The zapper is tricky and I have to wave it about and press the buttons harder until something happens. It usually does eventually. The EPG has different modes, one of which is to look ahead a week but as soon as you move off the current program the recording facility is unavailable. This means you can only record here and now so there is no setting it to record something while you are out in order to watch later. The recording format does not play in any other player that I own. The 75 ohm aerial does not have a pass through so if you still want to use the socket on your TV then you have to make other arrangements. A splitter and another lead should do it but I haven't yet since the Freeview is coping. Happily I own an RF modulator which plugs into the SCART socket. Putting the output of the box into the house aerial system means I can tune other TV's in the house into the box. I am happy with it especially at the price but I wish the Freesat was easier to manage. EDIT: Encouraged by something another reviewer said I went back to the box to see if I could master the planned recording of future shows and I have. Using the EPG, navigate to the show you wish to record. If it's a future show the green button on the screen will now say REMIND. Press the green button on the remote and a red symbol should appear on the selected program on the EPG. If it doesn't then press again until it does. Once the red symbol is there, the green button on the EPG now says RECORD once again. Press the green button on the remote and the red symbol on the EPG now turns into a green symbol with an R in it. EDIT2: I was a bit disappointed that the TSV file that the PVR produced didn't play in any other device so I changed the file name extension to MP4 and now it plays anywhere that plays MP4'sRead full review

Bought this for the bedroom tv thinking it would be a cheaper alternative to a Freesat box. In fairness, it does pick up all the channels but every step is manual input..... choose the satellite etc.... the epg is clunky and the remote not very powerful.... really can't complain for the price and it's fine if you don't mind messing about. Personally I should have spent a bit more in order to have user friendly features.

First things first, this box is great value for money. If you're looking to leave Sky / Virgin, and want to make the best use of Freeview / Freesat, then this is the way to go. The initial set-up is easy, you obviously need a dish and an aerial. You also need to know what satellites your dish can pick up. The scanning system and storage work very well, and all of the menus are intuitive and easy to use. The picture quality is excellent and stable (given decent aerial signal) and actually gives a bar graph of signal strength and quality. It's easy to set up either a USB flash drive, or a USB hard drive for recording and also the ability to play/ pause/ rewind fast forward. There are a few things you need to be aware of, though, and to be realistic about what you expect to get at this low price. 1. On some broadcasts, there are lip-sync issues caused by the difference in processing time of the video and audio signals. To be fair, this also affects Sky boxes. 2. The EPG only works on Terrestrial channels, so you can only set up program recordings on these. You can still manually program a recording on a satellite channel. 3. The remote control range and angle are limited - in my case cured by using a One For All type remote. 4. The satellite scan finds lots of duplicate channels, for instance up to 10 BBC1's, so you will need to be patient and edit, and then sort, your final channel list. These minor gripes aside, it's a well made and well thought out unit. I'd definitely buy again.Read full review

The unit was easy to set up. I used the scart output as I had a spare scart on the TV. (All three HDMI are in use.) Following the book instructions the unit recorded and played back from a 16 gb USB that I had spare. I found on checking and watching the USB in my computer that the recorder takes about 1 gb to record one hour of television ( I have not tried HD so have no idea if this varies) The instruction book could be clearer, but with a bit of practice it doesn't take long to set up, record from the programme direct, also from the EPG and play back. I have now put a 32 gb Toshiba USB in and that too works fine.

It is an extraordinary Device for the price. I got the full range of FreeView channels plus all FreeSat ones on just one remote without the need of special steps to switch from aerial to dish. I added an old spare 80 GB disk driver to the USB port and can record live, time-shift or up to two weeks in advance. At this price there is a downside: It is a GENERIC device with the best of features but you don't get to exploit them because the instruction manual covers only the very basics. You have to use your intuition how to tame this beast. The instructions book feels like incomplete cut and paste portions of better mix of manuals.
