The Belkin Insight Switch is a very good example of its kind. It is a simple switch that is controlled via a tablet app connected to the internet. The switch itself is WiFi enabled, once setup the app on ones tablet is used to automate the simple switch on/off although the switch has a manual soft touch switch on the top if you wish to manually switch it. The app will suffice but its a shame there is not a PC version. Initial setup can be a little hit & miss, no feedback on what is going on, but once done there is a reasonable selection of controls such as timed on/off or on at dusk, off at dawn etc. You can connect anything you would normally connect to your wall socket, lamps, TV's even extension leads. The unit is well made and comes only in white. Its a reasonable small size and does not impact on double gang plugs. All these type of things only work when connected to the internet, although there are third party apps that enable control via ones own network but you would need a server type device switched on all the time for them to work. To surmise, well made, works well, would benefit from a PC software version and better setup process.Read full review

The good things about this are: 1. Doesn't need a Hub 2. Works with Nest and Alexa and IFTTT 3. Good quality 4. Responsive - no lag between internet control and the device The not so good: 1. It's not the cheapest internet switch 2. It randomly disconnects. I have two, one worked fine for a couple of weeks and lost the signal. I need to go and re-pair it. This shouldn't happen. The second device, in the room adjoining the one with the router, also disconnects periodically. 3. If you rename a device, it continues to run the schedule for the device for the old name even when the schedule itself is deleted. It appears to download the schedule to the device and keep using it until it is reset. This is a bug, and the only solution appears to reset the device. If this is how it works, why have a rename facility at all? When it works - it works well, but there are too many issues to give it any more than 3 stars. They can probably be fixed with a software update.Read full review

A great little device that was so easily set up you would think it was an Apple product, it’s intergrated itself with Alexa on the amazon dot and it’s great to turn a lamp on and off through the web while we are out and it can also be used on a timing schedule. We love it and plan to get more as we are getting older also and it helps not having to bend down to switch items in hard places on. A nice clean device with all the bonuses above and with this model it can give you feedback on how much energy you are using, it’s a very good model and certainly worth it’s asking costs.
