Upgrading to a Garmin Dakota from a Garmin HCx I was disappointed in the battery life its still good but I it uses 3 sets of battery's to the HXc one.Its a bit of a marathon to mark geocache finds but paperless geocashing is great on the whole its still a good upgrade
I am from Colombia in south america and I bought a magellan explorist before but it was a terrible purchase because it does not load maps of my country, then I bought this garmin dakota and it was a very good choice. I am glad to have bought this also it was cheaper than the magellan.
- I bought it for outdoor and mountain hiking - It have geocaching application - It is also ussable for road navigation - Good power save option - it turns off the LCD comletelly - My only dislike: too small display
In my decision between the Oregon and Dakota series I found this review very helpful - http://www.anatolyivanov.com/prose/en/AI.7.00159/
