This set features nine of Elvis' more memorable films, namely Jailhouse Rock (Deluxe Edition), Kissin’ Cousins, Viva Las Vegas (Deluxe Edition), Girl Happy, Stay Away Joe, Live A Little Love A Little, Charro!, Elvis: That’s The Way It Is (Special Edition), This Is Elvis (Special Edition). Five of these titles (Kissin' Cousins, Girl Happy, Stay Away Joe, Live A Little Love A Little and Charro!) have not been released on DVD before so it's great to be able to add these to my collection. I am pleased to say they all seem to be re-mastered even though it doesn't actually say this on the box or the DVD covers! Jailhouse Rock even gives the option of 5.1 surround sound although I have to say it doesn't sound like a modern stereo 5.1 but it does sound very good! TTWII(SE) has 5.1 on disc one which is the re-make, but not on disc two which contains the original version of the film; this is rather annoying as the original theatrical release was definitely in Dolby Stereo but it's nice to have both versions! Viva Las Vegas also gets the 5.1 treatment. If the titles are bought individually you normally get a set of postcards inside the cover; that is not the case with this box set however as I'm not a postcard collector this isn't a major problem for me! I won't give individual reviews for all the films as time and space does not permit. Suffice to say that if you like Elvis and know what to expect from an Elvis film you'll love this box set which brings together nine films which are all entertaining and great fun. Note this is by no means a complete set of Elvis films and other box sets or individual titles will also need to be purchased to give a good representation of Elvis in Hollywood, probably most notably Loving You, King Creole, GI Blues, Blue Hawaii, Follow That Dream, of course the NBC TV Special (now known as the 68 Comeback) and finely Aloha From Hawaii, however I think all of Elvis' films have a certain charm and most can stand repeated watching, perhaps with the exception of Tickle Me which with its strangely "out of time" soundtrack which was recorded around five years before the film was made and obvious back-drop scenes rather than filming on location score make for an odd mix!! I would definitely add Elvis On Tour to the list of must haves but at the time of writing it still isn't available on DVD which is a great shame as it is a must see!!Read full review
