You really need to be informed. Enjoy!
Like many other customers,we all miss the metal ones but, this is good as it gets these days. Does it work, yes. However it (can) leave a bit of fuzz on the wick after use which can be a problem. I clean it with this tool and then retract the wick fully, then raise it and then light it. Warning! Do not use this cleaner on a wick unless it has at least 50 hours of use on it. It can damage a new wick if you do not have at least this much run time on it first! My Alladin Blue Flame from the early 60's with a new wick did not perform as well until after the burn in period and then and only then, did I use the wick cleaner / wick shaper conformer tool from England. I was born in the wrong era and dearly love old tech stuff but you have to do your homework and be safe about it. Ok so you tried ... Ok so you tried to do everything right with the wick cleaner and still have a bit of yellow flames. I patiently worked the wick on the heater tonight and after about two hours running the Aladdin Blue Flame and a bit of adjusting here and there she is running perfect. You have to give it a bit of time to burn off a few tiny leftover pieces of fuzz even after cleaning and retracting the wick and raising it to light it. Also, when using the wick cleaner you have to take the center brass flame spreader out first. Then simply, (in very small increments) raise the wick,,,use the wick cleaning tool,,,raise the wick,,,clean and stop as soon as you see no more charred pieces building up on the cleaner blades. Hope this helps someone. Bottom line,, you should end up with an (almost) perfect blue flame. A ((very few)) orange spikes is just dust burning off from the room. A little bit of red at the lower part of the flame is legal also. This is VERY IMPORTANT, Always keep at least one window cracked about an inch open for outside air input for the heater. (Heaters are like us, they need air period). Carbon monoxide sensor in the room will tell you if you are running your heater wrong or if there is something wrong with the wick and or your fuel. Water in Kerosene is very bad! It can happen from said store you buy K-1 from. If it does happen you will know it. It will smolder like crazy. Guess what? Now you have to replace your wick with a new one and flush out the kerosene heater tank with fresh kerosene, No you cannot run gas or fuel oil or anything except K-1 kerosene in any portable kerosene heater no matter what year it was made. I am not talking about forced fueled heaters. That is not the topic here. You also can buy a kerosene additive that will reduce emissions too the point of no smell. Research it. I am not responsible for any mishaps due to negligent error here. Only giving out tried and true real life experiences using the vintage Blue Aladdin Heater. The rest is up to you. And NO do not use a kerosene heater in a bedroom only or the likes of. I am into informing folks with information to help save lives. I am covering the Aladdin Blue Flame here. Other kerosene heaters will always have yellow flames etc. Follow the manufacturers directions for any said kerosene heater explicitly always. Cheers

Haven't used it on new wick yet, cant find orig. metal wick cleaner with lift handle for burner top time will tell, so if it s the only show in town there isn't any alternative choices i guess. so my answer is not negative but not positive.. I have 4 Aladdin lamps and the plastic wick cleaner works ok with them, but the brass Metal one works better in shaping and cleaning the lamp wicks. my only problem is where do i store it, orig.stored underneath heater.Haven't used it on new wick yet, cant find orig. metal wick cleaner with lift handle for burner top time will tell, so if it s the only show in town there isn't any alternative choices i guess. so my answer is not negative but not positive.. Does what its supposed to do. Alladin needs to remake the metal ones. They are a little sharper and will remove more Carbon buildup. These are great for the price and do what they are supposed to. This seller is A+
