This was purchased to replace the Sky service which I was fed up with paying when we hardly or never watched paid channels. 99% of the time we watched what would be free to air channels. I didn't want to pay for the privilege of recording free to air channels. This box works great. The guide is quite easy to get used to but is different from Sky (one example is that the latest episode recorded of a series is now normally at the top of the list instead of the bottom). Recording on the Humax seems more accurate, so far no missed beginning or end of programmes plus fast forward and rewind is nice and tight when you press play, not overrunning the stopping point like the Sky box used to. Whatever Sky box we had, there always seemed to be a point on the hard drive where the picture would glitch for a few seconds. No such problems experienced with the Humax. Picture quality is excellent as is the sound. On this model, lacking from newer models, is a subtle, not too bright, text display normally showing the channel. Arguably it's not needed but is there on this model. The only thing I can think of that's lacking from this model that's present on the newer models is built in wifi but it's plugged in near the router so no problem there. It's still current enough to have the latest Freesat features such us watch from start on some BBC programming. One thing to mention regarding watching earlier programmes on Freesat, this is only available where channels have catch up and even then not every programme is available from earlier. This is an excellent box to use subscription free and I can highly recommend it.Read full review

Once you get your head around the many stages of operation the box does a good job. The most annoying feature is the "Favourites" feature. Setting up favourites is easy but long winded. However when you come to select from "favourites it only allows a one time selection and then immediately reverts to "All channels" to change to another "favourite" channel you have to go all through the process again i.e. "Channel list" - "List" - "OK" - "UP" - "Favourites" - "OK". Surely it could be made easier by "sticking" on favourites until you select "All channels" again. The operations manual leaves a lot to be desired. Many features and settings are not even mentioned ! One has to find things by "Trial and error" or by consulting the many "Forums" on line. One example is the "Skip forward" feature. Nothing in the book!! Many other omissions exist! In spite of all this the box is good value and with a little "Tweaking" could be excellent!!!Read full review

Easy to set up, unplug Sky box, plug into Freesat box and away you go. Saving of £20 a month on the basic sky package I had and I am able to watch all the channels I like, record the programmes I want and catch up on the ones I missed. Especially like the catch up feature which takes you straight to the app you require to watch the programme. No more trying to locate which part of the BBC player my programme is hiding in.

Its a good system and easy to set up, i would say, first unit sent out was faulty and it was a bit of a faff getting it agreed and a label printed, but new one works great
