I bought Leica M9 to switch to digital rangefinder photography. Previously I have used Leica M6, followed by Leica M2. Luckily I held on to my lenses, Summicron 35 and 50, and an Elmarit-M 90. They gained twice the value I paid for them (used), and it is a wonderful set with my Leica M9. Leica M9 is a tool that just works. The interface is very simple, very familiar for the age old Leica users. Good choice that Leica did held on the the original M ergonomics (except that it is a tad thicker, not that important, though). The images that come out of Leica M9 are breathtaking. Absence of the AA filter makes them pop out. Colours are wonderful. I cannot get the same quality from my top Canon DSLRs. It is just lovely. Well, I should admit that it doesn't come cheap. But, it is a much longer relationship that you form with the Leica company. Some examples: Digilux 2 cameras (from 2004) developed a sensor based problem that was stemming from Sony's faulty production. Leica still replaces those sensors, free of charge. Then again, some Leica M8 cameras developed an LCD problem; Leica now offers cheap upgrades to M9 out of courtesy. If you have the funds, and if you want the best, I think this is it. The new Leica M? I think it is DOA. Really. Sad.Read full review
