I have had three different varieties of Dremel rotary tools. I have used them for everything imaginable. This classic design is by far the best. Plenty of power (which the cordless versions struggle with), and no fancy speed controls. That's why it has remained unchanged for so many years. Blow it out with compressed air after dusty jobs and purchase a spare set of brushes. It will give years and years of service.

Soon as I plugged the tool in and turned it on it had a burn smell and then it started to smoke. I turned off the tool put it in a box and refuse to use it. I took it as a loss and ordered a new Dremel tool.

I really bought it to file my dogs nails down, without pain and anxiety. It's fast (on low speed setting) and easy. I love that it's corded and I don't have to change batteries or recharge the unit; like other dog nail trimmers.

Great value if you don't need variable speed (it has two speeds). I've always used a sewing machine pedal to control speed anyway, so I saved a lot of money getting this basic model.

I do not have this particular 2 speed. I have the older model 286 type 4 and it works very well and is reliable. I have over 30 Dremel tools at this time. I repair and recondition mostly 395s of all types. Thank you; Dave Berthiaume
