Lese-Probe zu „New School Macramé “
Hello and thank you for being here! This entire book has been written in the room where I used to sleep as a little girl, in the very house where my grandma taught me to tie macramé knots as an eight-year-old. Somebody pinch me, because WOW - what an honour it is to be sharing my fibre secrets with you. If you'd told eight-year-old me that my obsession with crafting macramé friendship bracelets would lead me to an art career, I would've been in total disbelief. The knots were in my life for many years, then began to wane in my early 20s, when I discovered the fine art of having fun, working full-time, and paying those dreaded bills. I also began to travel incessantly, both to fulfill an endless curiosity about the world we live in, and to find what I was seeking: a life truly worth getting excited about living. But you know what? In all that adulting and exploring, something was still missing. It was creativity, the calm of knotting, the discipline of mastering technique, and the artistry of coming back to myself. And so, in order to write this book, I knew I had to return to the place where my knotting journey began. I decided to change my life once again to tap into that curiosity, because that's the passion I knew I needed to bring this book to life. After a couple of decades, having lived on four continents and traveled to more than 40 countries (and counting), I am back in my homeland, tapping into that elusive creative source.I have always been heavily drawn to mid-century modern style, vertical clove hitch knot macramé, and punny humour; and in developing my fibre art business, I knew that it would be in the place where the three intersected. My new school fibre tapestries became canvasses that I could draw and write all over; where all things cheeky are explored and fabricated. My quirky work is sought after by people from all around the globe and by those who are searching for curious, salacious, salty expressions made beautiful. Seeing my original custom

designs come to life brings me next level joy (and sometimes a few blisters), because a day without laughter is... just kidding, I have no idea.Back when I started tying vertical clove hitch knot tapestries, no manual existed to teach many of the techniques I am sharing with you in this book. I pioneered and documented them, and now I am beyond excited to see what you will do with what you learn from these pages. This book will take you on a macra-journey unlike any other, because it's all about learning how to finesse and hone vertical clove hitch knots! After an introduction to the materials and tools, you'll find the knot guide, where you'll learn how to tie the knots, as well as the essential skills to create your pieces. Then, I have created ten detailed projects for you, complete with step-by-step instructions and images, where you can use the skills you've learned in the previous section. Next, I've included an extensive library of grids to give you all sorts of motifs, abstract designs, and alphabets for you to practise your skills and get your creative juices flowing. Lastly, I'll walk you through the process of designing and creating your own projects, which by the time you have worked your way through the book, you will be able to do like a boss! And please, if you post your macramé works to Instagram, don't forget to tag me (@tieoneoncreative), and use the hashtag #newschoolmacrame, because nothing would please me more than to see your knots in the wild.I am truly in awe of what this artform has brought into my life, and I hope that you will feel that as you turn the pages of this book. There is no limit to the original macramé art you can create using a few really simple, tried, tested and true methods. My hope is that, since you are holding this book in your hands, you too will find in the knots exactly what you need.
